It's been hot, really hot, here, like mid forties for days on end and I have never been so grateful to put on my swimming clothes and go for a dip. The girls had 2 weeks of swimming lessons, every day we would make the trek into town all loaded up with swimming gear and on those really hot days I'd be so grateful to jump in with them.
I am grateful for the two lovely swimming instructors that helped to build their confidence and skills, and were patient with their shyness and anxiety. After last year's disaster where everyone (including me) ended up in tears each and every lesson it has been a nice refreshing change.
I don't want them to be Olympic swimmers or anything like that (unless that's what they choose) I would just like them to be confident in the water and able to save themselves if they had to and each day has bought them closer to that.
In saying that though I have been very grateful this week that swimming lessons are now finished, we're not driving into town each day and when we do go to the pool, it's for fun! Plus the kids aren't as exhausted and teary at the end of each day, yes for that I'm very grateful.

I have the same thoughts on swimming as you! It's definitely worth it. Looking into swimming lessons at the moment. Hope it cools down at least a little where you are Nat x
ReplyDeleteHi Nat, Just discovered your blog and had to comment on your post as I can totally relate! My girls, 7 and 5 had a series of lessons 2 years ago and each one ended in tears. Thankfully last year and this year they've also turned the corner! It's such an important skill to have. Wishing you a cool change in the weather :)
ReplyDeleteOh that must have been SO nice to refresh yourselves... 40 degrees is a bit punishing. Well done Muddy kids for making it through their swimming lessons and well done Mama too. I can only imagine how tiring it would be carting 3 of them along to the pool xoxo
ReplyDeleteThe water, and the pool has been a god-send this brutal summer. Kids and swimming and all things summer make me so happy :)

My kids adore swimming, it really is one of the best sports going around ad so great if they can adore something that also keeps them safe.
ReplyDeleteHello via Grateful, how shockin' to have day after day in the 40's. It's not even 30 here but I am boiling and whinging like a dog. And about to jump in our backyard pool. I was brought up in Scotland so having our own pool makes me feel I am living in Hollywood!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a big hurdle with the swimming thing. I agree about needing to know how to swim for safety, and that's all I wanted for Bella too.
ReplyDeleteI'm crossing my fingers that the heat is going, we reached 37, but nothing like your mid-40s!

Hope some cooler weather comes your way - we got a couple of mid forties days and they are absolute killers - cannot imagine it being that way for weeks on end. Enjoy your swims!
ReplyDeleteWhen oh when will they stop needing the swimming lessons?! I tell myself it's when they can each swim 50m non stop and then I'll only make them go to lessons if they love it. Or something like that. The pool is fun, though! x
ReplyDeleteHooray for swimming! There is nothing as refreshing as a nice dip in the pool and how great that the lessons fell during a hot week. I miss our pool, we've had some nasty nut grass grow up THROUGH the ground cover and the pool lining. Nasty stuff. So it's emptied and waiting to be patched. Your kids look like they had a blast!
